Jason Lloyd Update: Jason had many appts with Kaiser staff - TopicsExpress

Jason Lloyd Update: Jason had many appts with Kaiser staff Friday. A 2nd catscan, x-rays for the orthopedic surgeon on his broken arm, Occupational therapy and Acute Care physical therapy came in to test his range of motion, and his Dr and speech pathology tested his cognitive recognition an memory recall. They must have questioned like an inquisition half the day before he told them he was tired and they understood he was fighting a headache. I think they forgot or maybe cant believe he almost died just last week. I had to remind them he just woke up from a coma on Monday several times because they were all really pushing on tests and he was exhausted. We havent gotten his pain management completely dialed in and only took him off IVs and the heavy narcotics as of Thurs afternoon when he was transferred from ICU. I think the pain is being managed ok on the Tylenol with Codeine#4 now but he still gets a raging headache when they push him too far. I had to remind them he hasnt had plastic surgery yet when they thought he had. I told them no for Opthamology because they need him in a wheel chair. Jason has only sat in a chair once since Monday and it was for 20 minutes. Because he looks so good has so few injuries to the rest of his body, is not on any tubes or wires he looks like hes so much further along in recovery. I think the Drs. are surprised. I had to let them know VMC only okayed him up with a helmet and neck collar on Tues. I think they are on the same page as we are now, but we are meeting new staff on his case all the time. The orthopedic surgeon says the surgery done at VMC was top notch. They matched the bones perfectly, doesnt look like tendons are cut. They are bruised from surgery. The plate and bolts were done perfectly and he should heal very nicely. As soon as hes ready, they are confident he will be fine for physical rehab. We are a bit concerned about his right eye. He is not seeing clearly out of it. We think its due to some of the swelling he still has. We are hoping it will correct when the swelling is gone. One reason why Opthamology wants to see him, but we have already been told it may just be what it is from VMC staff. There is no way to repair the optic nerve. All the others primarily tested his ability to recall what they told him, tested his memory and checked reflex. He did very well after rests. Once hes fatigued, only option is to give him a break. It makes him unable to recall or too exhausted to respond. Once hes rested he does better. They worked with him his longest period yesterday asking him to respond to questions for a full hour. Hes doing really well. His critical rehab Dr told Jason he was pretty astounded at his progress. He told Jason that they usually see people who have had this kind of injury to the left side of the brain, unable to recall, respond or identify things. He said hes very pleased to see how far Jason has progressed already. Jason understood a lot more yesterday and I think he finally understood why they are asking him so many questions. He was even able to write his name. On a positive note, the Go-Pro was found. We were wrong. It was the one time Jason took off without it. Brandon found it in his closet. Jason was really happy. I found it difficult to see them pushing him so hard. Mama Bear wants to tell them to back off and slow down and I have been very good knowing their goal is our goal. Make him as whole as they can. The hardest thing they did to him that luckily Mike was there to handle is he is now on a blood thinner than requires a shot given in the stomach. I would have not been able to handle him getting upset about that after everything they did yesterday. Hoping today they got enough information to let him have breaks in between.
