Jason Update: Jason worked very hard the last two days. They were encouraged by his activity Th and Fri a.m. and purposeful movements (trying to remove tubes). I was just encouraged by his strength, determination and sheer resilience. They said his goal Friday, was to try to breathe on his own. We hoped to remove the respirator. The criteria is stable vitals and head pressure, purposeful movement and being able to handle the new sedative series and able to handle being more wakeful. They set his respirator to breath activated so when he initiated a breath it would kick in a bit to give him a full breath. As usual, Jason exceeded their setting on the machine by double. Their setting was gone from the display when I went back in. I told Mei, his nurse, and she smiled and said I know, the rate you are seeing now is all him. He breathed on his own for 5 hours!!! . He was a bit stressed, so they are letting him rest tonight and are having the machine do the work, and will let him try maybe 6 hours Sat. depending on how hes doing. Keep up the prayers its working!!! They hope to take the head pressure bolt out of the top of his head next so its less of a danger of damaging him as theyre removing the feeding and breathing tubes in case he starts fighting them . He is very sensitive to touch.
