Jelly Bean, Loved and Treasured, This Time Around! Jelly Bean, the only dig Ive ever known to be diagnosed with a broken heart, is now in the arms and hearts of a loving family! When 3-pound Teacup Chihuahua Jelly Bean came to us from death-row, he was very quiet and withdrawn, unlike the other Chihuahuas we accepted that day. He seemed to love being held, and would give us sweet little kisses, but once back in his he would curl up and ignore the world. Jelly Bean wouldnt eat enough on his own to even maintain his bony little frame, and we began hand-feeding him. Dr.Staley, Staleys Veterinary Clinic, examined Jelly Bean. Physically hes fine, but he is very depressed, concluded Dr. Staley. Keep him somewhere quiet and just live him a lot...And find him a HOME! Jelly Bean was broken hearted over the loss of his humans! A tiny fellow in a big world, Jelly had been in a home, then found himself in a municipal animal facility, smelled the death and adrenalin there, then was transported to AVNM... its all just too much for these precious dogs and cats that God sent to LIVE us! A variety of foods was tried, from soup to canned chicken to cereal to every variety of canned food we also had donated to us. Baby food was Jelly Beans favorite, but even with that, hed just eat a tiny bit and was still losing weight! Barbara and Nick Ashber of Alamogordo offered to foster Jelly Bean, who had stolen Barbaras heart when he met her at Dr. Staleys (and stayed overnight for observation). Barbara, Nick, and their dogs brought Jelly Bean back to life, and while Barbara also had to struggle with his lack of appetite, even this improved, to the extent that she found Jelly Bean sneaking kibble from her other dogs bowls! Barbara and Nick sent videos and photos of JB enjoying life with their dogs, and cuddling in Barbaras arms. Now we KNEW he could be adopted-he just needed time! Jelly Bean came back to AVNM a different dog. He was Dusty Divas roommate and they played ALL the time. He began to eat a normal diet without assistance, and ran back and forth inside and outside in his kennel. Last week, we even heard him bark! And the day that Dusty Diva was lost, it was like God looked down and said, Im NOT going to let you be sad again. He sent Anna Martin, who was looking for a companion dog, and her amazing mother and sister, to AVNM. We keep hearing about Animal Village, said Anna. Ive been looking for just the RIGHT dog and my friend said, WHY dont you just go to Animal Village? And Anna is so glad she drove down from Alto, NM, to AVNM. Because Anna meet Jelly Bean, and it was LOVE at first sight. She didnt want to meet anyone else, just JB. And hes making the whole family laugh every day in his new home (soon to move to Austin, Tx.) At Animal Village NM, we never never never give up on our rescued hearts, until they are loved and treasured, this time around. Thank you, ask who donated for us to save Jelly Bean, Chiquita, Laila Ali, and that whole precious group of death-row dogs. Thank you, Paws and Claws Rescue, for advocating for and bringing JB to us, and helping to mitigate our risk by PRE-vaccinating him, which many animal control facilities still wont do. And bless you, Barbara and Nick Ashber, who fostered and Loved Jelly Bean back to life, so that this could happen! *********** PLEASE become a monthly sponsor in any amount to help Animal Village NM continue precious lives like Jelly Beans? If everyone reading JBs story would donate a little every month, it would make SUCH a difference so that we can save SO many more! Your donations to our 501c3 no-kill shelter are tax deductible and can be made securely online at animalvillagenm
