Jessica Chastain: Once I Got a Perm to Look Like Annie Most redheads try as hard as they can to avoid Little Orphan Annie comparisons. But Jessica Chastain is not most redheads. The Most Violent Year star, who now gives us mane envy every time she hits a red carpet, tells InStyle in the magazine’s January issue that the famously frizzy-haired, carrot-topped moppet was her style inspiration once upon a time. Courtesy InStyle “I wanted to look like Annie for a time, so I got a terrible perm and had a curly red Afro because the perm fried my hair,” she says. “Then I cut it all off and had very short red hair. I always stood out for my bold choices.” (Now? She loves her hair as much as we do. “I see it as a badge of honor,” she says. “I love being a redhead.”) She’s still standing out for her style choices these days, but in a good way: She’s got some of the best style on the red carpet. And her personal “emotional” favorite, she says in a video interview, is the Alexander McQueen she wore to her first Oscars. But she says that stuff doesn’t matter to her as much as they might to other stars due to the suicide of her sister, a sensitive topic about which she’s just now opening up. “It completely changed the person that I am,” she says. “A movie, Oscars, a dress, if someone thinks I’m stupid … I realized nothing is that important.” RELATED PHOTOS: See (and steal) star looks we’re obsessing over!
