Jesus Calling is somewhat confusing today since it refers to god - TopicsExpress

Jesus Calling is somewhat confusing today since it refers to god as a jealous god. So I decided to use my religious upbringing this morning (which I tend to avoid....I still have healing to do there but if it is helpful I will do it for you guys ;) to explain why such a word....a lower principle would be used in reference to god. The references made to God as a jealous God draws upon human emotions we all can understand. The writer used used jealousy as a metaphor to express something about God so that people could understand it. This is not meant to indicate that god is assuming human emotions. Sometimes when writers or people use terms like this, which are almost always negative, they are misunderstood as meaning to be a description about how God really is. Take this instead as an anthropomorphic (that means when we attribute human characteristics to inanimate objects or animals and to god) description about God. Then it will allows us to move beyond, negative human emotion that is used as an example in the reading. So to say that god is jealous or that god doesnt want us to have idols (other higher powers)....why? Are we saying that what we do affects god or makes god react a certain way or that what we do controls god? No. Its just a way some people can understand why its important to put god first. Why is it better for us and really wise to have god as our higher power? Because when we put people, things, or ourselves in the position of being a higher power WE harm ourselves and our lives suck. Bottom line is that god loves us and doesnt want our lives to suck lol. God only wants our Highest Good and that is what we get IF we put god before people, places, things and our own stubborn thinking. Have a wonderful day ;) Im going to close on another house
