Jesus said we who are believers in Him are the salt of the earth. - TopicsExpress

Jesus said we who are believers in Him are the salt of the earth. But He warned us that we can lose our effectiveness. In the Sermon on the Mount He said . . . “YOU ARE LIKE SALT FOR EVERYONE ON EARTH. BUT IF SALT NO LONGER TASTES LIKE SALT, HOW CAN IT MAKE FOOD SALTY? ALL IT IS GOOD FOR IS TO BE THROWN OUT AND WALKED ON.” (Matthew 5:13 CEV) If we are the salt of the world, we have work to do. As the salt of the earth the church is to add zest, zeal and spirit to the world. We are to be the preserving factor in an evil society. We are to create a thirst for the things of God. When Jesus called us the salt of the earth Jesus was complimenting us and giving us a great responsibility. Salt is needed to improve the taste of food. We read in Job 6:6 (NIV) IS TASTELESS FOOD EATEN WITHOUT SALT, OR IS THERE FLAVOR IN THE WHITE OF AN EGG? When Jesus called us “the salt of the earth” He was not just flattering us He was giving us a great commendation, for salt was and is important. The world needs salt. The world needs Christianity. The world needs Christ. The world needs salvation. The world needs forgiveness. If we are all Jesus taught we should be then we should be creating a thirst in the people surrounding us for the things of God. When you eat something salty you become thirsty. Some good questions to ask yourself are these . . . ➤ Do I create a thirst in anyone for God and the things of God? ➤ Do I cause anyone to want to be a Christian? ➤ Do I inspire others to reach out for the Master? Christians should arouse attention to and longing for Jesus Christ. Sadly some Christians do not create a thirst, they create nausea by their attitude and shallowness. That ought not to be, because Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. Praise God . . . for those who give unselfishly of themselves in their church. Praise God for those who add a touch of salt in an un-Christian workplace. And Praise God for those who show their neighbors an example of Christian living. Bless those who give and give and give of themselves to the point that they feel good about themselves. And God help those believers who know nothing about sincerely helping others.
