Jim Landon, the Palm Coast city manager is once again trying to - TopicsExpress

Jim Landon, the Palm Coast city manager is once again trying to push for having a tax placed on all our electric bills. It is called the Utility Tax. At a recent city council meeting on the budget, the council and city management, discussed implementing the utility tax once again. The majority of the council gave reasons why they would support the tax. This is what they do when they begin their process for implementing what they want. They talk about it like its the best thing since sliced bread. Then on a low turnout council meeting they just pass it. Thats how we got the Red light Camera nightmare we have now. This tax has been defeated in the past but we have to be prepared to push back or they will put this tax in before we are able to respond. A spreadsheet was presented by employees of the city showing how the tax would bring in over $3 Million more per year in taxes. They were quick to point out how it would cause businesses to pay a few percent more in taxes. However they glossed over the facts that utility taxes disproportionately hurt seniors on fixed incomes who cant afford a higher electric bill. We have to stop this. Unlike other taxes we now have in place, a utility tax also allows the city to collect more in taxes each year without any public review. As long as electric bills rise they get more in taxes. Electric rates have steadily risen for the last 50 years. This is desired by the council because they can not be blamed for raising taxes. They will always say they have no control over what the electric company charges. Palm coast is a low tax city and we are going to fight to keep it that way. Like the page so we can organize to push back against this tax when they try to pass it. https://facebook/pages/No-New-Tax-in-Palm-Coast/285458901626136
