Jimmy Carter: Talk about turning points in History... When Carter was in office, the Shah was our Ally. Iran was Western leaning country and its People were well educated in western style Universities. The Ayatollah Khomeini was exiled in France. While Carter was in office, his lack of support for the Shah was an opportunity too good for the Ayatollah to pass up. He returned to Iran, staged a Coup, and seized power. The good life the Iranian people knew ended. They now live in anguish under what is probably the most oppressive regime on Earth. President Carter allowed a crucial Ally in the Middle East be driven out by a ruthless religious dictator. He allowed a western leaning Muslim country to become a brutal Muslim Theocracy. And because of Carter, WE, and the rest of the world will face the very real possibility of Iranian Nukes.
