Job Posting: Paid Undergraduate Consultants for English Language Institute Friday, November 7 (Application Deadline) This job is for current University of Michigan undergraduates only. The English Language Institute (ELI) seeks undergraduate students to participate as “Undergraduate Consultants” in a prospective GSI (Graduate Student Instructor) language and pedagogy course, ELI 994, sponsored by LS&A and offered jointly by ELI and CRLT. Undergraduate Consultants will participate as students in practice teaching sessions and give feedback on language and pedagogy to prospective GSIs in training. Undergraduate Consultants will also provide conversational English language practice. Educational Value: Students in this position will learn about second language teaching and learning, critical analysis, and constructive feedback skills. They will also have the opportunity to learn about quality teaching by observing and giving feedback on practice lessons. Required Qualifications are: * current enrollment as a U-M undergraduate * experience in LSA undergraduate courses * an interest in quality teaching * time availability (please see dates below) * punctuality * excellent English written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work during all course sessions, to candidates with prior successful performance in ELI 994 or other ELI courses or programs, to candidates with evident motivation to participate constructively in the course, to candidates who contribute to a diverse array of academic backgrounds (particularly quantitative and/or science majors), to candidates with international experience, and to candidates with prior teaching or tutoring experience. Undergraduate participation in the course runs from Friday January 16 to Friday April 10, 2015. Candidates should be available at all of the following dates and times from January to April: * Mondays 4-6 p.m., * Wednesdays 4-6 p.m., * Fridays 2-4 p.m. Hourly Rate: $10.00 Course events involving undergraduate consultants will be scheduled during approximately 15 ELI 994 class meetings at these times.
