Essential Functions: Performs interior and exterior painting of City facilities and equipment; applies by brush, roller, and spray a variety of paint materials including varnishes, enamels, acrylics, acids, resins, and stains; mixes paint; spray paints City pools, light standards, pipes, machinery, and other equipment and facilities; does sign lettering; paints floors, furniture and office equipment; rust-proofs various surfaces; washes, sandblasts, and patches surfaces in preparation for paint application; hangs wallpaper; drives on City business. Minimum Qualifications: Employment Standards: · Knowledge of - The methods, materials, brushes, tools and equipment used in the painting trade; anti-corrosive treatment of metals · Skills in - Applying paints to various surfaces. · Ability to -Judge the proper paint requirements for all kinds of surfaces; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public. Education/Training: Three and one-half year’s combined formalized classroom instruction and recognized apprenticeship on-the-job experience, which includes painting from swing stages and scaffolds, resulting in acquiring the status of journeyman painter. Special Conditions & Requirements: Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection. License & Certificates: A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of appointment.
