Joel made a promise to his very close friend and partner - Tess. Then he took Ellie all the way - a very long and tough way - to the fireflies. Eventually Joel didnt make his own promise and obligation and covered it with a false swearing to Ellie, and the way I see it - for his own good. I didnt wish for such an ending, but if were already at that point, do you think that what Joel and Ellie left of this (each other?) - worth it? Joel sees Sarah on Ellie, or remembrance to Sarah, probably. I can understand that a long way together cant avoid people to get closer and kind each other - a smuggler and a asset in that point - but wasnt the end an injustice, especially to Ellie and the purpose of the fireflies?
