Johannesburg, also know as the City of Gold, was founded in 1886 when settlers and immigrants began mining the largest reef of precious metal ever discovered. Today, the environmental and social impact of what became a mining mecca is very much evident. British photographer, Jason Larkin, spent two years in the city and has published his observations of this unique coexistence between past and present in his book, Tales from the City of Gold.
