John 16:33 “…you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble, but be brave! I have defeated the world…” (Jesus) Did you get any bruises today? I am not talking about the ones that leave a mark on the outside. I am referring to the ones that leave a mark on the inside. You know – those hurts that were spoken to you today; those words of insult that made you feel small; those looks of hate that came from deep down inside; those snide remarks that were meant to put you in your place; those times of silence when no one spoke to you – in other words, the day’s attacks that put bruises on your heart. The inside bruises are the harder ones to heal. They stay black and blue for a longer time. BUT, because Jesus has defeated the world, He is great at easing the pain of your black-and-blueness. Bruises are His specialty. He has a special place for the bruised and beaten. That place is the cross upon which he was “bruised for our iniquities.” That place was supposed to be ours, but he took it on. Jesus’ bruises on the outside take complete care of our bruises on the inside. He can and will turn your black-and-blueness into the color of hope – I do not know what color hope is; but it is NOT black and blue!
