We greased the bearings and tested the autoguiding feature, which we have finally conclusively determined has a hardware problem in the controller: Either the connector on the controller is faulty, or it is something on the circuit board. At any rate, it definitely has a fault in the autoguiding. Aside from that, the mount works fine. The Go To works fine, and it is properly polar aligned. So it can be used for everything but autoguiding. It has been a problem for a long time, but now we have confirmed that the problem is in the controller. While we were there, I mounted my Canon T1i with my Baader MPCC coma corrector and a 2-inch 2x barlow to the 16 inch meade Newtonian to see how if would do getting an image of Saturn. I took about 1 minute of high definition video, which was later cropped to get rid of the beginning and ending jerky parts, converted the .mov file to high definition .avi, and staked the best 200 frames using the latest version of Registax. Because I only used a 2x barlow, the image size of Saturn was smaller than it should be for this kind of photography, but it was, after all, a test. There is very little detail in the image, but anyway, here is the result:
