John has Articulatetattooed across his forearm for this very reason. The #1 sentence out of a persons mouth who meets him for the first time is in regards to how articulate he speaks, coupled with a look of shock and awe. Sadly, my boys hear this same response, very often. Weve taught them how to politely respond. They clearly understand that it is racism, and they are not bowing down to it... but raising above it and with manners. I know a great deal of people dont have the intention for the statement to be a racist one, but this just further defines how ignorant the statement in fact is. Think before you speak.
