Join us for ivohs Mindful Media Summit in June with Judy Rodgers https://facebook/judy.rodgers.334?ref=ts&fref=ts IMAGENS Dear Friends, We are writing to warmly invite you to join us for the Images & Voices of Hope Mindful Media Summit and Retreat in the Catskill Mountains of New York from June 26 – 29. This gathering convenes journalists, artists, filmmakers, and media makers of all sorts around our commitment to “media as agents of world benefit.” It’s an invitation to get away for a few days to the 300 acres of trails and woods in the Catskills – to walk in the mountains, reflect on our work, and talk with others who are engaged in telling new – and stronger – stories of the world. Together we will screen, read, and listen to narratives of strength and resilience, and enjoy great music and dance. This year we are taking a deep dive into Restorative Narrative and Solutions Journalism. Here’s how the schedule looks: Thursday: A Mountain Retreat Arrive Wednesday night for a full retreat day offered by the Brahma Kumaris on Thursday, June 26. Reflect on your own restorative narrative, starting with a sunrise meditation and, throughout the day, music and a workshop by singer/songwriter Morley Kamen. Thursday Night: Official Welcome The Summit officially opens Thursday night with music, a welcome, and a special introduction to Restorative Narrative. Friday: Restorative Narrative and a Dialogue with the Whole Room For Friday, we’ve invited some of the year’s most gifted reporters, photographers and storytellers to share their award-winning narratives about heartbreak and persistent resilience. You’ll be in great company: Andrea Elliott and Ruth Fremson, whose award-winning “Invisible Child” story in The New York Times drew attention to child homelessness through the eyes of a young girl named Dasani. Scott Farwell, the journalist behind the Dallas Morning News’ “Girl In the Closet” series. Jared Roark, creator and director of the documentary “Project Shattered Silence,” will lead a discussion and offer a special youth Master Class. The extraordinary Ayikodans dance troupe from Haiti will take the stage Friday night. (awaiting confirmation) Saturday: Solutions Journalism and Community Narrative On Saturday, we’ve carved out the afternoon for a workshop with David Bornstein, one of the brilliant minds behind Solutions Journalism. We’ll also look at Restorative Narrative in the arts and take up the subject of community narrative with: Kevin Fagan, whose reporting at the San Francisco Chronicle has driven policy change in the Bay Area and around the country. Yoruba Richen, a documentarian whose film “The New Black” is causing a stir. Anh Do, a Los Angeles Times reporter who transformed reports of a brutal attack against a young woman into a compelling story about love, care, and compassion. We bring the Summit to a close on Saturday night with the Awards of Appreciation. Most important is what happens between the sessions – the chance for sunrise meditation, guided mountain walks, and connecting with like-minded media makers. There is no charge for the Summit itself. It is a gift that Images & Voices of Hope has been making to the community of media makers since 1999. We count on our donors to allow us to make the gift of the Summit each year. Voluntary contributions cover the costs of our host (the Brahma Kumaris Peace Village Learning and Retreat Center); accommodations (most double occupancy); and three vegetarian meals a day. Most people contribute $300 for the three days. Some youth scholarships are available. We have limited space on the premises at Peace Village, so register soon for the most options. We’re looking forward to having you with us for this extraordinary meeting of minds – and hearts. Warm regards, The planning and design team for the ivoh Mindful Media Summit on Restorative Narrative ivoh.org/restorative-narratives-important-part-media-landscape/
