Join us in prayer today, Monday within the Octave of Easter, divineoffice.org/?date=20140421# “But God raised him up, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it” (Acts 2:24). [1] Today is the second day within the Octave of Easter, the eight-day period that began on Easter Sunday and lasts until the Sunday after Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday. By the fourth-century this week was used for post-baptismal catechesis (mystagogy). This eight-day period may have been modeled on the similar period of Unleavened Bread that followed the Passover. [2][3] From now until Pentecost or the 50 days of Eastertide, Christians are invited into mystagogy, through which we “proceed from the visible to the invisible, from the sign to the thing signified, from the ‘sacraments’ to the ‘mysteries.’” [4] Written by Sarah Ciotti Reviewed by Fr.
