Jonathan alone can’t stop corruption except – CAN Jos – Rev. Soja Bewarang, the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it will be difficult for only President Goodluck Jonathan to eradicate corruption in the country except every citizen gives his/her support in the fight. Rev. Bewarang noted that corruption is sin and conquering corruption means eradicating sin which is not possible as long as man lives on the earth. Speaking yesterday in Jos with newsmen in an interview, the CAN Chairman said if every citizen be it a farmer, teacher, business person, politician takes a bold step and say no to corruption, the scourge will be curbed and the country free from it. He said, “As long as man lives on the earth, sin will continue to exist and corruption is sin. If each Nigerian would say no to corruption in the farm, in the classroom, in business, in the market, if we will all take a position and say to ourselves; I will not be corrupted, neither by giving or receiving bribe, we will overcome corruption. “The President is doing his best but his effort alone cannot stop corruption except we take the bold step to stop sin, support him in stopping corruption for development to take place in this country”. He described as “laughable” the recent claim by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar that Muslims are being marginalized in the country asking, how can the Muslims be the marginalized? It is politics. According to him, “This is laughable. How can Muslims be marginalized? They have been leaders in this country for many years, they have all the resources and the privileges. Who own the big businesses in Nigeria? For the Sultan to say such is laughable, I don’t even want to believe he said such”. As an advice to the citizens of the State, Rev. Bewarang called on the people to be united and love one another as continuous fighting will help no one. His words, “We have come a long way, by this time next year, we will have a new governor, my problem is who will take over. We are to pray for God to give us a credible person who will continue and improve on the developmental strides of the incumbent governor. “We will not be happy a person who will turn the hand of the clock backward. I call on us all to be security conscious, be united and love one another because we do not have another State we can call our own. As an elder, my desire is leave a better Plateau that the coming generation will enjoy till the Lord returns”. He condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the recent blasts in Jos, pray for the quick recovery of the injured and urged every citizen “irrespective of denomination and faith to participate in activity that will add value to the State”.
