Your Excellency, Where are the dividends of democracy you promised us in Oyo-state? Subjects: • Domestication of Freedom of Information (FOI) act. • Your campaign promises. • Other Related matters Your Excellency, please permit me to make this an open letter. I have to state clearly that I cast my vote for you during the 2011’s general election not because I totally believe in your government to bring the needed change to Oyo state but because just like other people; One, I don’t want the previous administration to remain in power (the decision I didn’t regret till this day) because the administration is believed to be non-performing. Two, looking at Gov. Fashola of Lagos state and you been elected on the same party platform (then ACN), I was hopeful you will borrow ideas from him on how he transform Lagos state. Looking at the scenario then, as somebody who wants a change in Oyo state, I encouraged some people to also cast their votes for you but I wish to say that am disappointed by some of your administration’s policies so far. Sir, to start with I don’t understand why it is difficult for your administration to “domesticate” the Freedom of Information (FOI) act. On many occasions this administration claimed to be transparent, accountable and respects the rule of law and yet denied us the major tool we need to access information and justify the true color your administration while you are still in office. Sir, I challenge your administration to work with the House of Assemble and domesticate the Freedom of Information (FOI) act in Oyo state (without watering it down), if your administration is truly different from previous administration in terms of corruption. Secondly, Sir, I wish to remind you some of your promises before the election specifically the ones you make at Splash FM during the 2011 gubernatorial debate and to know about your performance on each of the promises so far: 1. Road: Your Excellency Sir, you promised to open up rural areas for our agriculture produce to get to the city. Sir, how many of these roads have been open up since you get to office and where? You promised to dualize all major roads leading to the city. Sir, how many of our major cities road has been dualized so far and where? You promised to construct most of these roads with direct labor. Can you please state how many direct labors your administration employed in constructing these roads? You promised to network with Lagos state on light rail system. Please sir, what is your administration’s progress report on this? 2. Power: Sir, on power generation for the state, you promised to build tarmac stations through industrial clusters, worked with NGC to bring gas pipeline from Ikorodu to our city gate, get coals from Kogi, Benue and Enugu to build turbine that will be generating 400 metric tons and also use the five major dams in Oyo state to generate power for the citizens and for our economic developments. What is your administration doing on this and what is the present situation report? 3. Water and Housing: you confirmed the fact that less than 50% of Oyo state resident has access to clean water in 2011 and you promised to improve on that by building mini water works in every local government in the state along other water program. Sir, what have you done to improve on this status putting in mind that the GM of Water Corporation of Oyo State recently confirmed on Voices that more than 70% of us still don’t have access to water? On Housing; you promised to build housing units for civil servants (2bedroom flats for levels 1-6, 3bedroom flats for levels 7-12 and 4bedroom flats for levels 13 and above) and also to open up housing estates in the state. What are your administration’s achievements in this regard? 4. Security of life and property: Sir, during the interview you deliberately put this in four different level. Job creation through agriculture, commerce and trading, social inclusion, social safety net and security of law enforcement. It is very important for me to commend your administration on the security of Oyo-state. At least we can proudly say that the security has greatly improved during your administration than what it used to be during the immediate past two administrations. Thank you for restoring peace in Oyo-state. But sir, apart from this great achievement, I wish to know how many direct and indirect jobs your administration has provided within the parts 3years? What have you done about the social safety net? What is going on with the police trust fund you promised? 5. Economy: You promised to minimize corruption, develop and encourage trading, industrial and commercial activities, resuscitate farm settlements by providing social amenities to encourage youth’s involvement in agriculture and also transparency and accountability. Sir, though I think you responses on economy are vague but yet, to what percentage have you been able to reduced corruption in the state? How far have you been able to develop and encourage trading, commercial and industrial activities giving the fact that your administration has demolished most of our markets and shops without building new ones? I wish to state clearly here that am in total support of demolition of illegal structures, shops and markets especially those on the road and other dangerous zones but I believe a responsible and people oriented government should have build another alternative markets for people before embarking on that kind of exercise. I want to believe your administration is working against the common people that cast their votes for you. Sir, by what percentage has your administration improved the state’s IGR (Internal Generated Revenue) and what are its positive impacts on the state? 6. Education: Sir, during the interview, you promised to follow UNESCO’s recommendation. You promised teachers ratio to students to be 1:30 by the first year of your administration and to achieve the 1:25 by the second year. Please what have you been able to do on education, since at the last check teachers’ ratio to students in majority of our primary and secondary schools are still about 1:50 or more? The Polytechnic, Ibadan has been on strike for about 3months over a matter that can be resolve easily and your administration does not feel concern. Since your children are enjoying their studies abroad, your administration can afford to waste the time of these youths until whenever you are ready. What is the present state of Oke-Ibadan high school and other schools you used to campaign? I hope they now have chairs and roof? How many teachers have you been able to recruit within the last 3years of your administration? It was so funny that your generation benefited from the free education provided by the generation before you and yet your administration does not see the need to do something drastically to improve on the status of education in our state. Finally, before I draw the curtain, I wish to seek clarification on some other related issues: i. Sir, what is happening to the #50billion bond that your administration is proposing? Since your people keeps preaching that your administration has not incur any debt or maybe I don’t understand the meaning of bond. Please, is bond a debt or a gift? ii. Why did your administration refused to conduct local governments’ election? iii. Sir, do you think Mokola’s bridge is serving its purpose since the holdup has successively been pushed to Adamasingba junction? iv. Where are the Oyato buses and taxis? Why another Ajumose buses? Your administration’s inability to ask questions about the oyato buses and taxis bought with the state’s money by the last administration gives us a clue that Ajumose buses may also disappear after your tenure in office. Your Excellency sir, I wish to state clearly that this letter was not in support of any of your opposition but in sole support of what is good for this state. I don’t think neither you nor Senator Ladoja nor Otuba Akala deserves another term in office. On your part, we hoped for a better government under your administration but it now clearly shows that we will get nothing more than empty promises and cheap propagandas. We can only pray that we don’t experience the immediate past administration again. On Senator Ladoja, I have my personal respect for him but his move to join force with Akala speaks volume and this really has a negative impact on his credibility. Some of us believe he is now too anxious of power to prove a point that is not in the interest of masses but for personal reasons. In conclusion, some of the questions that will be going through Your Excellency’s minds are why did I write this? And what did I want? I personally believe we have to grow beyond sentiments about those that govern us if we really want to move forward in the right direction; I think your administration has performed below what is expected of you. Since your administration has refuse to conduct local governments’ election, you have both the state and local government resources at your disposal yet we didn’t experience massive development. If other APC governors (not all) can performed relatively well during their first terms in office, I don’t understand why your administration is an exception. Even the primary goals this administration which is beautification and planting of flowers in Ibadan are not properly manage. We want a government that is based on personal values, understands the true meaning of democracy and have the political will to pursue the about the desired change. Your administration embarks on the “ABC clinic” propaganda yet refused to upgrade the existing health facilities. New state Ade-Oyo is a good example, why did your administration used the same resources that can be used to upgrade the hospital to build another “ABC clinic” just because your administration wants us to think it performing more than the previous administration. Sir is this truly for the benefit of the masses or the serve the ego of your administration? Sir, I believe a good leader is the one that looks beyond the present to the future. I wish to know the purpose of the Ajumose syndrome. Why Ajumose this, Ajumose that? Why not generally accepted name like “Eko o ni baje”? The previous administration was Oyato, your administration is Ajumose, and I believe the next administration will be something else. I sincerely don’t believe this state belongs to either of you alone but to every one of us and you don’t have the right to name it after yourselves but to give us a general identity we can all buy into. We need a leader that thinks beyond the next term in office and how to build a legacy that the next generation will be proud of. The idea that you are an “Awoist” is laughable. If Baba Awolowo were to think like most of our today’s politician, he would have name the Cocoa house, premier hotel and others after himself. I believe strongly that this administration is not better than the previous administration except for the highly inflated bridge and road constructions and plantation of flower around Ibadan. I am very sure we will be exposed to the level of corruption in this administration as soon as another government takes over just the way we do with previous administrations. I challenge your administration to domesticate the Freedom of Information (FOI) act if this administration is truly what it looks like.
