Joy short lived ‘2010 summer agitation’ leader released, rearrested from his residence “Will not beg to government for his release”: Family =>Masrat Aalm who spearheaded the 2010 summer agitation was dramatically rearrested by police from his Zaindar Mohalla Habba Kadal residence after he was released on the directions of Tehsildar Srinagar in the open court on Saturday. Reports said that Muslim League president Masrat Aalam who was taken to Baramulla sub jail a week ago was presented in the court of Tehsildar Srinagar on Saturday where the first class magistrate directed the police party to open his handcuffs and allow him to go to his home. As the news about the release of Masarat Alam spread, hundreds of people including his party members and other separatist leaders reached his residence to greet him. Family members as well as neighbours were seen distributing sweets in high spirits. The uncle of Masrat, Farooq Ahmed told CNS that this joy was short lived. “Everybody was greeting him. He met his family members including his mentally disturbed sister and uncles. He spent an hour in the room after that a large contingent of police arrived there and cordoned the area. The police party detained him again and he was taken to Shaheed Ganj police station,” he said. He said that the family was not expecting his release and everyone in the home was surprised to see Masrat. “This government is ‘specialist’ in detaining people illegally and we will not beg before the authorities to release him,” the uncle of Masrat said. General Secretary Muslim League, Abdul Ahad Parra who was accompanying Masrat Alam told CNS that told CNS that the party had moved a bail application in the said court and as soon as Masrat was produced before it, the court issued his release orders. “We had apprehensions that police would re-arrest him and same happened,” he said. Masrat Alam Bhat who had led the civil protests against in 2010 was arrested during a raid at his maternal uncle’s house at Wagund Tailbal area in October 2010. Before his arrest in 2010, Aalam had been released on bail after 21 months on June 8 same year. On June 25, 2010, Alam as chairman of Muslim League and general secretary of Hurriyat (G) had launched the ‘Quit Jammu and Kashmir Movement’ when Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani was under arrest. On the same day he had issued the first protest calendar of the year 2010 and continued with the practice till Geelani was released in August. He also released few video statements in 2010 urging people “to take the ongoing movement to its logical conclusion.” He reportedly carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head while police in 2010 had termed his arrest as a big achievement. Alam has been jailed for more than 10 years on various charges. He came into limelight during the Amarnath land row in 2008. He is considered to be instrumental is formulation the ‘Ragda’. (CNS)
