July 7, 2013 Hebrews 10:19-25, “Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Gracious God, loving Father, Sustainer of our lives, blessed Redeemer we rise to give you our thanks and praise for this Sabbath Day and for your Son, Jesus, who is our Savior and by whose lives our shall be measured for eternity. Father let us hear the purifying words and divine inspiration of the writer of Hebrews this morning as we may be wondering if we should rise to worship or languish in our bedding. Prod us to arise and join in worship and Holy confession of our faith in you for we are far too easily swayed by the convenient and the comfortable. Let us join together this morning in worship so that we may share in your glory and the promise of eternal life – let us be ‘encouragers of our faith’ in Christ Jesus the great priest of our lives. Hear our prayers for those who’ve been affected by the plane crash that they may feel your presence and peace; for those whose life has flirted with death; for those mercifully recovering from surgery, treatments and rehabilitation; for those who’ve tragically lost loved ones; for those who linger near death not knowing you but may feel you close and turn to you; for the saints who’ve come to you while their families grieve; for the weak and weary; for the timid and shy; for the bold and courageous; for the wicked to turn their hearts; for the wayward and the apostate to return to you; for our leaders to be truthful and guided by you; for the pastors, teachers and chaplains who’ve inspired us to your Holy service; for the men and women of the military, police, fire, protective, emergency and medical services both here and abroad – be also with their loved ones as they serve – they have withstood the tests of fire and foe for us. Father please deliver our nation on its knees in confession, seeking your forgiveness and living out our repentance to be your shining city on the hill whose Light is Jesus our Savior – the great Priest of our lives. We pray these things in Jesus’ powerful, cleansing Name. Amen.
