Juneau School District Superintendent Mark Miller is holding a press conference on Thursday, Dec 4 at 3pm at Zach Gordon Youth Center to announce his decision regarding whether to keep or remove four challenged Reading Wonders curriculum materials that offer an objectionable, historically inaccurate view of Alaska Native experiences of being forcibly placed in boarding schools. I hope his decision is to remove these books. Both Sealaska Heritage Institute and Goldbelt have been working for years on producing accurate, strength based, high quality materials.
