Just a few short days ago, 3 year old was found tied to a tree in NY and got put in a carrier and brought to sit in a cage at Manhattan ACC. And yet, he’s on tomorrow’s euthanasia list and New Hope only. Its not because he got sick at ACC-he does have some sort of skin condition he came in with. Its not because he’s an out of control dangerous dog-not when the assessor doing his behavioral eval says things like :… “He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, wagging tail. He was calm and relaxed during handling”. Its not because he doesn’t like other dogs-same assessor says “When playing with other dogs, Brock interacts well with both males and females and is moderately playful.”. So why after 4 days does ACC decide he needs to be euthanized-its because he growled when they came to take him out of the cage, he growled when they tried to shove him back in, he growled when that big hand tried to take his food away, and he wouldn’t let go of the rawhide they gave him. So all those experienced dog owners are shaking their head thinking that’s pretty appropriate for a scared, confused dog. Tonight, Brock needs one of those experienced people to work with a rescue to foster or adopt Brock. Tonight, he’s pleading for someone to make him stop being so scared, to treat him like a regular dog, to become his very own human who will stick with him. If you’re the one, start working now.
