Just a little photog PSA before continuing my day as planned...Its important to remember that there is a difference between those of us that make our living with our cameras, and those that happen to own one and are hobbyists that shoot when they are not working their real jobs. I am not purposely taking anything away from those that keep other jobs, and I would expect the same respect for those of us that are full time shooters. I am just saying that those that charge you, say... $800 for your full day wedding coverage, are probably not professionals. Because NO one can live off of that kind of cost. All year we get messages asking about wedding pricing, and it never fails that several times a year we get a message back saying why are you so expensive, so and so will do it for $blah blah price Well, and I mean this with all due respect...You dont always get what you pay for...sometimes you get MUCH worse, and sometimes you get MUCH more. As professionals, we charge what we charge because we have years and years of experience, a few hundred weddings, and hours upon hours of studying, training, and practice, not to mention the insurance, cameras, computer gear, and miles traveled under our belts. We do what we do NOT ONLY because we love what we do, but because we love what we do, AND somewhere, someone told us to find something we love, and figure out how to make a living doing it. We also have families and bills to pay. Obviously this is not specific to photography jobs...I just feel like we dont get enough credit for what we know, and what we do and we seem to take a lot of flack over price. I get tired of hearing the internet mutterings of they are too expensive. Sometimes, we are, and we try our best to break that price down when we can, we are real people and we understand...but that is not the expected...it is the exception. Often..and I mean OFTEN, we do photo or design work for free or at a greatly reduced rate, because we are nice people and we like to give back. But, please do not take advantage of that. I dont ask you, or expect you to do things for free FOR me...so please dont expect it FROM me. I dont get my car fixed for free, or free tires, legal advice, hair cuts, clothes, food, (I do get a EXCELLENT medical services and advice cause my momma works at the Drs office) but, other than that, we dont get special favors from people and we dont ask for it. I respect your job, please respect ours. Now back to your regularly scheduled facebook cat memes.
