Just an FYI prior to the Voting Rights Act the Federal government - TopicsExpress

Just an FYI prior to the Voting Rights Act the Federal government lacked the legal teeth to enforce the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States which was enacted February 3, 1870. For over 90 years states, primarily Southern states, skirted this Constitutional Amendment by enacting their own individual requirements for voting. Every day I see a lot of posts about following the Constitution. Well I lived in a time when many citizens were denied a right supposedly guaranteed by this same document. On August 6, 1965 a Son of the South, Lyndon Baines Johnson, from my great state - Texas - signed the Voting Rights Act. He had seen the same discrimination and ill treatment of minorities that I had seen. This Acts long formal name sums up its purpose - an act to enforce the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, and for other purposes. If it is lost or changed no Constitution Amendment will be safe. Just imagine that all free speech and gun lovers.
