Just came from Enders Game movie... Just if few words: Very brief free re-telling of book. VERY brief. And very FREE. From another perspective, I can hardly imagine how that can be done better in THAT limited time. Some things were drastically cut. Some retold in new manner. Some new vision is introduced... Obviously, the main thing, the emotions, the struggle of protagonist (and others around, btw) isnt visible as good, as they are described in book, you dont feel how strong is THAT achievement, how big work is behind. You look on that like here is just brilliant, gifted by life child, not the buy who lived quite miserable life and faced strongly and steadily all the harsh time which were given to him by life and surrounding people. But, thats as usual - if you want depth, feeling, understanding - youd better read the book, film is weaker. Nevertheless film is still quite good. Nice looking, a bit naive movie, good special effects, impressive final battles audio. PS: As well, when you know where to look, what to check - you can see, how authors tried as much as they could. They put so much of details from the book in some places, as its hard to find without knowing that. Quick facial emotions, short 1 second articulations etc etc. Still brilliant. And you can see how producer is rushing thorough scenario. Most of movies today have no content to show. Just few actions and a lot of special effects around. This story had too much to tell, but very limited time, so youre observing how youre just jumping from sceneto scene, in a hurricane rush. PPS: That was a good idea to invite Orson Scott Card as a scenarist, at least noone can say that filmmakers didnt understood what author intended to say by book. About 10 years back, Card told that Enders game isnt filmable. And he probably was right, but, I think, with his help they made the best they could (But I think making a set of movies, like startrek, could be better, who knows, maybe then they wont have to rush as much). Still amazed and highly recommending! Just dont read the book before film, to dont screw the impression.
