Just finished going through a picture history of Belmont . All old photos. So peaceful, times so simple. I looked at the dirt roads, trees , the old streets as they used to be. The buildings beautiful. More country , more open space. So beautiful the way it was. I wish it could have stayed that way. I see the new streets and all the updates , they called it revitalization . I see it every day and I think.... progress.... not so great. Simple was definitely better. We strive , every day to keep the historical look of out buildings, as they were, but , yet we revitalize the look of our streets , our side walks. We move our band stand, we change its color. We fix and rebuild what was left of the old mill but modernize it, put in a tar parking lot. The big old wonderful windows that were on the building we now use as a town hall, gone. the steps gone. Now modernized...a strange metal sculpture of a bicycle sitting out side its door a work of art , NOT. . We absolutely lost a lot of beauty with this revitalization they decided was best for the town. It should have been restoration. What was was beautiful, there was not need to revitalize it. In doing so , we lost a lot of beauty and history. I guess I am just an old fashioned girl at heart.
