Just finished reading the famous One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is fascinating, crazy, thought provoking - at times difficult to read. For me the initial few pages were difficult to get into, I thought I will never be able to complete the 400 odd pages, but once you get into the unique format, it is absorbing. Of course, you have to constantly go on referring to the family generation chart given at the beginning, because it is often that same names with slight twists that keep on coming back through generations. It is crazy because it consists of things, events, happenings that can never happen in reality (or all can happen in some mind-blowing way!) it is so far removed from reality and yet it is so contemporary, illuminating, enlightening, telling, commenting and relevant to what we see around us all the time. Fascinating!
