Just got home after a thoroughly exhausting two days at the Great British Craft Festival at Stoneleigh. Thanks to everyone that made the effort to come and support the show over the weekend. It wasnt as busy as last year and that can only be attributed to the fact that the recession has finally hit the craft industry. Which is a shame. This and many others like Summer Crafting were well attended, but once customers had paid high entrance fees, high car parking costs as in the NEC and high food and drinks costs at venues its obvious that many people dont have as much money to spend on their hobbies as they once did. This has a knock on effect to the retailers who have to pay very large sums of money just to be there and in our case this weekend, we didnt manage to cover the cost of our stand and expenses and actually made a loss. We really have to seriously think whether we can afford to be there next year. Only time will tell.
