Just got home from St. Helena Hospital, Napa Valley, after the - TopicsExpress

Just got home from St. Helena Hospital, Napa Valley, after the pre-op to the repair of my broken arm/wrist. Yesterday, I saw an ortho doc in Clearlake who told me my break was a twist that broke the distal end of the radius and a shove that pushed the radius up into the joint of my hand. Very unusual, he said in that sober tone that makes your hair stand on end. He had staff scurrying about unwrapping the splint the ER doc put on, rewrapping with an even bigger and more cumbersome sugar-tong splint, and ordering an appointment for me with the St. Helena hand surgeon STAT!!! Today, the St. H office looked at my black and blue, angulated (thats ortho speak for bent grotesquely out of shape) hand and said, Yeah, we fix a lot of these with a metal plate and a couple of screws. They replaced the giant splint with a wrist splint that allows me to wear more than spaghetti strap and bat-wing tops. Youve done so much to it that you cant do much more damage. Just remember if you bump it hard, it will hurt a lot. Surgery to fix it next week.
