Just got home from a long, but fascinating day with the Rural Futures Institute. I spent about 5 hours this afternoon with my pal Marty Fattig, administrator of the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, one of the most innovative, progressive, and successful rural hospitals in the country. We are considering some important ideas we might pursue together. Then I went on to Falls City with some daylight remaining, so I could take a look at the many public and private sector initiatives this community has undertaken in the last ten years to make it vibrant and moving forward. I spoke at their EDGE Banquet tonight, and had a chance to meet a number of business and community leaders who are driving this progress. -10 degrees when I headed to my pickup with sweat on my brow from the after-dinner speech, fogged up my windows before I got to Hwy 73!
