Just had a curry at the local Thai place. They asked how hot. I just gave a thumbs up. pumped a few times to indicate all the way up. Oh Jeez said the waiter, and Okay. I was expecting the normal toned-down-for-white-folks spicy, which is somewhere between a stick of cinnamon and a peppercorn. Curry and Turmeric and cilantro and maybe some spicy pepper bits. Even in Thai and indian places, they choke things back a bit assuming a midwestern whitebread pallet. Safe assumption, usually. You white folks might THINK you like spicy foods because you can handle tobasco. Think salt-and-vinegar with some red pepper is hot. Think a jalapeno is an extreme sport. Not this time.
