Just looking for a bit of advice... Ill keep the story simple, but basically I did a wedding a few weeks ago and all was well until the end of the night... I went outside to bring the van upto the fire exit to start loading up. There were three people hanging around the fire exit (blocking the way as usual at the end of a gig, why do people ALWAYS stand in doorways?) Anyway, theyre stood on the car park just outside the fire exit door, Im reversing the big van towards them as thats where I need to be. Its a large van (high roof, long wheelbase) driving slowly towards them with the reversing camera & buzzer sounding. The people made no attempt to move out of the way until I suddenly heard a shout as I got near them. NO, I havent run anybody over.... But a woman had left her bag on the road and I had managed to drive over it (didnt see it in the reversing camera as it was black) As you can imagine, her phone was in her bag and was smashed. Theyve tried to claim off the venues insurance, venue understandably have said its nothing to do with them. They have now sent me a txt asking for my insurance details as its cost them £170 to repair/replace the phone. I do have PLI with NADJ, but unsure if this would be covered? I also firmly believe it wasnt entirely my fault as they were stood where they werent supposed to be, and made no attempt to move either themselves or the bag despite the van obviously coming towards them. So.... What would you do and how would you respond to them?
