Just received disturbing news from Siberia and provinces in Northern Caucasus in Russia that some Christian leaders and missionaries have been summoned by local authorities and questioned about their ties with the Baptists in Ukraine (because new interim President of Ukraine is Baptist), and especially those in the West. This has created much fear and confusion in regard if this is a sign of a potential beginning of escalation of pressure/persecution on missionaries from Ukraine. It is a known fact that for years since USSR collapsed there were hundreds, if not thousands, of evangelical missionaries from Ukraine and Moldova who moved there to mostly remote areas of Russia with an effort to plant new churches and spread the gospel in the wast unreached territories. As the result of their successful ministry for the last two decades hundreds of new churches were planted. Since the recent escalation of anti-Ukrainian propaganda in Russia, their ministries were affected and there is fear of more escalation of oppression. Please continue to pray for God’s protection for His people and for the restoration of peace and unity between Russian and Ukraine and that the gospel continues transforming lives in both nations.
