Just recovering from a rather unusual session yesterday. This involved doing an urgent recording for an Italian singer, who unfortunately had a rather limited grasp of English,, let alone studio - english! So, you can understand that this becomes pretty crucial when it comes to explaining which take to keep, how far to rewind to do a drop-in; all this would be fairly straightforward, had the song been of a recognisable verse -chorus- verse- bridge- chorus etc etc. Oh no -that would be too easy. So, I thought, just chill and go with the flow .....I wish. Singer was getting a little bit frustrated when I erased one guitar take as I thought he wanted. OK - to cut a long story short - we got a reasonable version recorded , but I had totally lost the plot by this time ; not many singers start their song with wailing and wolf like howling, then proceed to sing through cupped hands, via his own very whacky FX box - delays, chorus, distortion - its all in there ! So, song all done, and I swear it would put the fear of god into Charles Manson if he was still alive to hear it. Final irony - pays most of the previously agreed figure in Euros ( Ill use for my next bike trip), and falls £15 short overall. Nuff said I think.
