Just returned from seeing my cardiac surgeon at St Bartholamew’s hospital. He told me that I had suffered an enormous heart attack in the past. I have no knowledge of this!! Anyway the resulting three blocked arteries and a heart that is only one third working means that without a quadruple bypass I would not be around much longer and I would have limited abilities in that time. Because of my weakened condition the risk is greater than the usual two percent and he reckons it is double that.i.e a four percent chance I could die during the operation and a further two percent that I could suffer a stroke. I told the surgeon that as I bought a single lottery ticket on Wednesday and Saturday, always expecting to win at 14 million to one that I obviously have no idea how statistics work and anyway there isn’t really a choice but to go ahead. So the procedure is booked in for January 29th. Another lot of changes to plans (sorry to those this affects) but it does mean I can get to my own 60th birthday party at Cafe Oto on the 19th. Great fun to be had by all :-)! Thanks for all the concern from everyone and again sorry I really won’t be able to answer you individually as I am now busy on getting some important things sorted out before the operation (and putting in some guitar practice for the 19th!)
