Just so everyone knows, on this date 1775, the greatest fighting force in the world was created. Since 1775, the United States Marines have been everywhere. Their first battle was March 3, 1776 at the Battle of Nassau. Even though they failed to capture supplies for General George Washington, they still are the best the world has ever seen. My father Allen Arbogast and cousin Mark Arbogast were both Marines. Only Marines know what that title means. It comes with an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is also a brotherhood that is indescribable. From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli. Describes their fight against Barbary Pirates and their battles during the Mexican American war. In 1847, Marines captured Mexico City and cleared Chapultepec Castle. After the Civil War, the Marines were involved in several skirmishes, but the Spanish American War put them at the forefront. They were the advance force in landings in Cuba, the Philippines, and many other Spanish held islands. After the war, the Marines proved to be the best fighting force the world has ever seen. In the early 1900s, the Marines were involved in several skirmishes, including the Boxer Rebellion and the Banana Wars. Their most famous battle during the first world was Battle of Belleau Wood where they earned the nickname Devil Dogs. The French government renamed the forest to Bois de la Brigade de Marine (Wood of the Marine Brigade), and decorated both the 5th and 6th Regiments with the Croix de Guerre three times each. During the 1920s and 1930s, the Marines would see action during small skirmishes and invasions, mainly in the Caribean. During World War II, the Marines main focus was on the Pacific. The famous Island Hopping Marines took Island after Island, until the Japanese Surrendered. Who were the first to land at Inchon Korea? Yes the United States Marine. Vietnam was a test for the United States Marines. They fought at Da Nang, Huế, and Khe Sanh. The Marines were as ruthless as the Viet Cong. After the war brought the turbulent 80s. This was when the Marine Barracks in Beirut were blown up by terrorists. The Marines also invaded a tiny little Island called Grenada, which was occupied by the Cubans. The Marines were sent in to rescue American College students. Marines also had to invade the Philippines to end a Coup. They also invaded Panama to capture Manuel Noriega. In 1990 and 1991 the Marine Expeditionary force was sent to Saudi Arabia to prepare for Operation Desert Storm My father can tell you all about it because he was there. Saddam was a prick then and he was one up until he was captured in the recent Gulf War. The Marines also fought in Bosnia, then Iraq and Afghanistan. From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli. From the Island of Nassau to the Caves of Afghanistan. The Marines will fight our countrys battles on land, sea, and air. Whether you are invaders of this country, whether you invade other countries, whether you terrorize people, or whether you make enemies of the United States People, you will be an enemy of the United States Marine; and I will guarantee that when you become his enemy, that Marine will succeed in bringing you down.
