Just today, I was reading about how summer is ending, and I must admit--though my rational mind tells me otherwise--I feel the same way. Sure, I realize theres still over a month (barely) of summer left, I know that. But theres something in the air, and it speaks of pumpkins and apples and windy days where leaves skitter across avenues and byways. Autumn is my favorite season, I plug right into it. When I had my store, Id decorate for Halloween right after September 1st. Customers and friends would say, gee, Rod, dont you think its a little early? And I must admit, when the temps were still in the high 80s, it was tough to think of Halloween. But the ambiance was there, I caught it perfectly. In October, Id stay open later and turn on all the orange and purple Halloween lights, and my store would become a Halloween haven! Everybody loved it, and so did I. Wed sit around the front counter and tell ghost stories or share scary moments from our lives. Good times, good times. Well, I no longer have my store, and since my mother passed away, I havent decorated at all (and no longer give out candy--but that will change someday). Still, I feel the pull of Halloween and the fall. Do I want summer to over and done with? No, not at all. It seems like we just left winter behind. But I cant help but feel that strange tinge to the air, as if things are changing. Anybody else feel it?
