Just want to reiterate on the situation regarding the remnants of ex hurricane Bertha as I see the media are now starting to pick up on this and I do not wish people to be mislead. This also saves me answering numerous individual questions. The track and intensity of this system is very uncertain, as you would expect given that it is still thousands of miles away in the Carribean and is still developing. There are 3 possible outcomes. 1. This system affects the UK directly bringing wet and windy conditions to the UK (Remember, this will have weakened as it crosses the Atlantic but could still produce some pretty rough conditions). 2. This system takes a track further away from the UK and takes the worst of the conditions with it, although some spells of wet and windy weather may still affect the UK as a result. 3. This system pulls up some very warm and humid air ahead of it. A Spanish plume type affect that would lead to hot and humid conditions and perhaps the risk of thunderstorms developing. This situation looks the least likely currently. A lot of uncertainty but I shall continue to watch how this develops and update accordingly. Whatever happens, it is unlikely that this would bring anything on the scale of some of the storms that affected the UK last winter! Before then, the rest of this week brings very mixed and largely unsettled conditions with showers and longer spells of rain affecting many parts of the UK at times. Localised flooding may be an issue as may be the risk of hail and thunder from some of these showers so please check back for updates.
