Just wanted to give an Abby update, as many friends have called. Abby got sick two days after she came home post surgery. She was transported back to Cincy. Last night, she was transferred to ICU due to the fact that shes been vomiting for 4 straight days, and because her blood pressure is wildly out of control. Keep in mind that her surgery was a success, and the renal arteries are supplying the kidneys with plenty if blood. Plus, shes on 3 BP meds that worked well the first couple days after surgery. The BP is hanging around 150/100, but got as high as 201/120 today. This should NOT be happening, and they dont know why it is. Theyre not even sure if the nausea and hypertension are related. Also keep in mind that the bypass surgery was 11 days ago, so she has those huge incisions. Plus, her head isnt healed from the craniotomy. Also, she hasnt eaten since the surgery other than a few bites that came straight back up. Needless to say, shes malnourished and has lost lots of weight. Theyre giving her nutrients through her IV. Im hoping her gut wakes up before they resort to a feeding tube. We are very upset, discouraged, and sad that we thought the worst was behind us, and we promised Abby that we were finished with the hospital other than visits for follow up care. Yet, here we sit in ICU. We feel like weve barely been with Leigha the past couple months, but neither of us want to leave Ab because she needs us. Thanks to those who have been asking, praying, etc. I will do my best to update.
