Just when everyone thought the Summer was safely over without a major fire, and the helicopter had left (on the 15th) having stayed for an extra two weeks, a wind turbine at Melanios seems to have been the cause of a major blaze in Amani two days ago. Huge efforts from both the professional and volunteer firefighters have now controlled the fronts, successfully using a road as a fire-break and limiting their movement so that they were directed towards the sea. Nevertheless this was a serious incident (reaching close to both Aghio Galas and Nenitouria)... Just what everyone was hoping to avoid. The villages themselves were not damaged and there are no reports of casualties. Antonis Vorrias took some photos...
