Just when music videos seemed like they were going to be a completely dead art form, it looks as though the internet has managed to save them. Back in my day (says the old-timer), the music videos were played on the tv. MTV started a music revolution that lead to MTV2 and VH1. When 3 channels werent enough they even added Tr3s, MTV Hits, MTV-U, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, and Fuse. Dont ask me if any of them play videos anymore, because I tuned out when it seemed like all that they played were reality tv shows. Who knew that The Real World would ruin MTV when it debuted in 1992? I think that the popularity of YouTube has really helped to make videos a little more relevant again. Bands that probably wouldnt have had a music video (or at least a good one) are suddenly making some pretty cool videos now. With social networking sites like FB and Twitter, its really easy to let your fans know that you have something new for them to check out. Yay internet! Its such a beautiful thing! (Except for all of the bickering, internet trolls, click-baiting headlines, violations of privacy,... etc. You get the picture.) One group taking advantage of the video genre is Phoenix. Their video for the song Entertainment is very cinematic. Its set in Korea, and it follows characters through history, showing them dealing with various conflicts. Its ultimately uplifting as two characters find love across time. Its sort of like Highlander, but without the *spoiler alert* beheadings. That, or Cloud Atlas without the 3 hours of your life wasted and the bad makeup jobs. Phoenix managed to accomplish the same thing in 4 minutes :) - Mr. Big #Phoenix #Entertainment #MTV #Highlander #CloudAtlas #Korea
