Have you seen the new ad for #GoldieBlox? The company says that they are about to release the first action figure for girls. While I might quibble over the self-proclaimed title (I have action figures, and I’m a girl--so any action figure I own would thus be an action figure for girls), I love the concept. The ad is powerful, and reminds us what little girls (and their grown up counterparts) have to face in terms commercialized idealism. We’re told that beauty is measured by a very narrow standard. Girls a placed into boxes of glitter and hairspray that doesn’t have room for math, science, or fixing tires.
