KFD and the Union Fire District of South Kingstown responded to a structure fire on Plains Road early this morning. Crews were hampered by a large propane tank feeding the fire and a lack of hydrants in the area. Five family members were transported to the hospital for evaluation. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with an ankle injury and one was treated at the scene. The State Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire to be a faulty extension cord.
