KILLASSER/CALLOW PARISH NEWSLETTER PARISH WEBSITE - killasserparish.wordpress FR. JOHN DURKAN (094) 92 51431 087 9548532 E-mail: frjohnd@gmail All Souls Day 2nd November 2nd Nov 2014 KILLASSER/CALLOW PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MISSION STATEMENT ‘We seek to become a more welcoming community where God’s wonderful message of faith, hope and love is experienced’ Indulgences Indulgences are the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. The faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains the indulgence under prescribed conditions for either himself/herself or for a person who ahs died. Indulgences are granted through the ministry of the Church, which, as the dispenser of the grace of redemption, distributes the treasury of the merits of Christ and the Saints. Norms for Indulgences for the Commemoration of All Souls From twelve o’clock on 1st Nov until midnight on 2nd November, all who have confessed, received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary, or any other prayer of one’s choice) can gain one plenary indulgence by visiting a church or oratory, and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostle’s Creed. This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed. Confessions may be made at any time within the week preceding or the week following 1st November. Holy Communion may be received on any day from 1st – 8th November. 2. The faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions once per day from 1st – 8th November. The conditions mentioned above apply also for this. Fr. Stephen O’Mahony - Bohola 086-8226405 Fr. Dermot Meehan - Swinford 094-9252952 Fr. Padraic Costelloe - Foxford 094-9256131 Fr. Thanks to eveyone who contributed. Killasser is the focus parish of our prayer this week. ‘No matter what you have done, I love you for your own sake. I know you through and through. I know everything about you. I have followed you through the years and I have always loved you. I tell you again that I love you, not for what you have or haven’t done. I love you for you for the beauty and dignity my father gave you by creating you in his own image. I cherish you more than you can possibly imagine, to the point of dying on a cross for you. That is how precious you are to me .... there is no one more important in the entire world than you’ [Attributed to Mother Teresa] We are praying for our diocese because ... as individuals and as a community we know that prayer has the power to draw us ever closer to Jesus who loves us with such amazing and unconditional love. A Talk about Pastoral Councils Pastoral Councils have been in place in many parishes for a considerable length of time. Their contribution has been very positive. However, the landscape within which they now operate is very different from that of the time they were first set up. The changing needs of parishes today see new and different demands being placed upon our Pastoral Councils. It may be an opportune time now to re-examine the whole structure, operation and vision of Pastoral Councils. With this in mind, the Fr.Peyton Parish Cluster has invited Fr. Eugene Duffy to address the issue at a talk on Thursday, November 20th at 8.00pm in the Father Peyton Centre in Attymass. The talk is open to members of all Pastoral Councils within the diocese to attend.
