KINGDOM LIVING - Proverbs 3 - 5 Honor the Lord with your wealth,with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing,and your vats will brim over with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 This for many is one of the hardest scriptures in the Bible. But the promise that goes with it is one of the most sought after. It doesnt make sense of course like so much of Gods wisdom - love your enemies, do good to them that hate you...... But our creator, our Heavenly Father has given us everything we have and are. The honor He deserves and requires is the highest. The firstfruits are the best of the crop, they are given before weve worked out whether we can survive on what is left. Giving honor to God causes us to display to the world and the heavenlies our priorities in life. I am Gods and He is mine! It causes us to let our light shine, to share our faith and to lean not on our own understanding. Other scriptures call it the tithe - 10% - so many say - they could never afford that, others - were working towards that, others I give in so many other ways or indeed to so many other things. But there is no way around this verse - this is the honor that God requires. Our mindset needs to be that those firstfruits, that 10% is not ours it is His and then He can and will fulfill His promise. I honestly think putting a figure on it helps our enemy more than us, God knows us better than we know ourselves, He knows the quantity of our firstfruits and I believe for most of us it is more than 10% but it is a good place to start. I know, I know it doesnt make financial sense and for some the numbers just dont add up. But God owns the world and everything in it, He does not live by numbers or by logic. Our Gods thoughts are above our thoughts, His ways above our understanding, He took 5 loaves and 2 fish and fed over 5000. So this year would you like to get out of debt? This year would you like to have more than you need? This year would you like to choose to help and bless people more than you ever have before? Yes, yes, yes - I cant imagine anyone giving any other answer - then honor God and let Him do the rest! Heres the same scripture from the Passion Translation - which one of us does not want this promise? Glorify God with all your wealth, honoring Him with your very best, with every increase that comes to you. And then every dimension of your life will overflow with blessings from an uncontainable source of inner joy. Proverbs 3: 9-10
