KNOW YOUR STARS….Episode 2…….JACKI JAKISA CULTUREMAN>>>>>>>>> SO WHO IS CULTUREMAN? He was born on November 15th, 1978 in Kampala. His family lived on William Street when he was a child but he later on moved to Gulu when his father was transferred there. He attended nursery school in Gulu but later moved back to Kampala for lower primary. After doing stints in Jinja and Kibuli, he wound up back in Kampala. His education up to when he finished was in Kampala at Nakasero Senior Secondary School. Born Jakisa Richard, Cultureman’s first attempt to singing with a band was in 2000 when he was invited to sing songs of Lucky Dube for John Band which was playing Congolese and Luganda music in different hotels and pubs in the suburbs of Kampala. Cultureman worked with several bands notably African beat,Miami Angels before joining BLOOD BROTHERS Uganda’s most popular reggae band. In 2001 he became the band’s front man and was often referred to as the Lucky Dube AND Dr Victor of the group. Belting out songs like Feeling Irie, I am a Worrior, Cultureman managed to keep Blood Brothers Band afloat on the ever changing Ugandan music industry. However, the accuracy with which the Band played the world’s greatest reggae hits over shadowed the group’s original composition. In 2005, tired of playing soccer, Cultureman recorded an eight truck album and launched it backed by the same band. Soon the band begun to play original compositions and Cultureman’s Luo reggae lyrics became the audience’s favorite. The same year, JAMUSUMA the major track on Cultureman’s album swept over air waves in northern Uganda and west Nile region and has been a special request hit in parties and Radios. With renditions of traditional songs in Luo and his adhering to live band performance, Cultureman clearly shows the difference between miming artists and accomplished Musicians. He launched this album at Gaf Hotel in Nebbi on July 8th, 2005. On the 9th, there was another do at the same venue. A radio broadcaster by profession, Cultureman composes and writes all his songs with the help of the guitar and key board. The vocalist, rhythmic and bassist left the blood brothers band and together with his long time friend Jose, they have formed the SMALL AXE BAND which first formed alongside LANGA LANGA STARS from DRC during coronation week for the ALUR king in Nebbi in November 2010.
