Kalispera everyone! It was great to see soo many people at church this morning, to commemorate the feast of St Luke the Evangelist. Here are a few small facts on this amazing pillar of our faith!! 1. He wrote one of the Gospels which is part of the bible 2. He was the first ever icon painter, his icons still remain including Panagia to Kykkou and Panagia Hodegitria. 3. He was a physician by trade 4. He is the patron saint of artists and surgeons 5. His symbol is an ox 6. He saw the Resurrected Christ on the Road to Emmaus 7.At the age of 84 he was tortured by for the sake of Christ and received the crown of martyrdom by being hanged to death from an olive tree in the town of Thebes, Greece. 8. A miracle occurred on December 22 1997, where at 1.30pm, myrrh appeared on the tombs marble and since then the interior of the marble sarcophagus is fragrant.
