Karen Bowersox noticed her granddaughter Maggie’s clothing - TopicsExpress

Karen Bowersox noticed her granddaughter Maggie’s clothing didn’t fit. Regular clothing cant be easily altered to fit a person with Down syndrome, while no existing companies offered selections tailored to their physiology. The femur [of those with Down syndrome] is so short, so when you have a pair of pants, a standard size pair of pants, they dont taper at their knees… So you see a lot [of people with Down syndrome] wearing sweat pants…” “They can roll up a shirt sleeve four or five times. So many times they look like theyre wearing someone elses clothes because they cant find clothes that fit. If theyre struggling with buttons and zippers, their independence is taken away...” So, Maggie’s grandmother did what any other doting nana would have done if only they could—she started her own clothing line, Downs Designs. When they wear our pants and they fit, and they look and feel more comfortable, they can be confident in themselves. You dont see the Down syndrome anymore.
