Kashmir University gets nod for establishment of College of Engineering at Zakura Campus Admission process for B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, E&C engineering to start from July 12, 2014 Srinagar: Adding yet another feather to its cap the University of Kashmir is all set to provide admission in B. Tech course in three streams including Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Communication Engineering from this year at its recently approved constituent College of Engineering, Zakura Campus Srinagar. According to a KU notification No. F (admissions-14) DAA/KU/14 dated July 11, 2014 on-line applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to 4-year B. Tech. program in these three programmes, for the academic session 2014 at College of Engineering Zakura Campus Srinagar in addition to the program of B. Tech in Computer Sciences and Engineering which is presently being taught at North Campus of KU at Delina, Baramulla. The aforesaid admission notification was published in leading dailies of the state on Saturday after an earlier notification dated 10-07-2014 was issued by the University wherein the Governor NN Vohra who is also Chancellor of the University accorded his approval for the establishment of an engineering college at Zakura Campus of the varsity. The notification No. F (Eng.College-Zakura) Acad/KU/14 dated 10-07-2014 issued by KU reads “It is notified for the information of all concerned that subject to ratification by the University Council, the Chancellor has been pleased to accord his approval to the establishment of an Engineering College at Zakura Campus of the University and introduction of B.tech Course in Electrical and Mechanical initially from the academic session 2014.” According to the notification candidates can submit their on-line forms from 12, 07,2014 wheras the last date for submission of on-line application forms and the hard copy has been fixed as 22,07,2014. The eligibility criteria has been kept as having passed Higher Secondary Part II (10+2) examination from J&K Board of School Education or from any recognized Board or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) subjects with at least 50% marks, in case of Open Category and 45% marks for Reserved Categories. The candidate must have appeared in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main 2014), conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. According to the KU authorities the intake capacity for each course shall be sixty seats. According to the KU authorities the decision is a “historic one” and will provide great relief to those hundreds of students of the valley who would move to other states of the country for pursuing various engineering programs in various universities and colleges. Vice Chancellor KU Prof AM Shah said “We are greateful to Hon`ble Chancellor for according approval for establishment of our own constituent engineering in anticipation to the approval of competent body.” He added “This has enabled us to start admission from current academic session for the benefit of students. We will put a great deal of effort to see to it that the college becomes a model engineering college of the state.” Prof Shah added the establishment of an engineering college of the University shall add to the growth and development of the University vis-à-vis academics, research and administration. The overall objective, Prof Shah asserted, is to “ensure that the University grows as the institution where student friendly constitution is a priority, and where the ultimate focus is to make the institution as a potential center for collaborative research opening gates for better funding and establishment of a constituent engineering college is a step in that direction.” Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof MA Wani while welcoming the decision of the Chancellor said “We are sufficiently equipped in terms of the faculty and other resources to start with these three programs from this very academic session and with the course of time we may increase the intake capacity from next academic session in each of these programs.”
